In 1972 I owned a 1957 Harley FLH similar to this. I was about to become a married man, and thought the responsible thing to do would be to sell the bike. I'm not saying that I have regretted the decision (well, maybe a little regret, OK, a lot of regret - but I still think it was the responsible thing to do), however I always wished that I had that bike back. Thirty one years later... still married to my dear wife, both of our children are now married and we have two precious grandchildren. But I still haven't owned, or even ridden, a bike since I sold that '57 Panhead back in 1972. So, one beautiful Wednesday evening in July we are attending the Blues-On-The-Mall in downtown Grand Rapids, MI. Ronnie Baker Brooks was playing that night. We were wandering around thru the parking lot where all the bikers park (there had to be at least 300 bikes there!!) and my wife asked me if there were any bikes there like the one that I used to have. Well, you just don't see many old panheads any more. But... then I saw it... an old panhead which, as it turns out, was a '57 - like the one I used to have. We wandered around some more but I kept coming back to the panhead. When the owner finally returned I found out that he was willing to sell and the rest, as they say, is history. I am now the proud and happy owner of a 1957 Harley FLH... again. |
